NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO PUT OFF SOLVING YOUR TAX PROBLEMS

We have just returned from two weeks of IRS Problem Solving Seminars and I wanted to bring you up to date.

The new “kinder and gentler” IRS is starting to dissolve.  They are still having to abide by the IRS reform of the late 1990s but they are interpreting the codes differently.  The “ones in the know”, those who have their hands on the pulse of IRS, are telling us that it is becoming more difficult to get an Offer in Compromise approved by the IRS.  We are beginning to see a hold up in the processing of offers sent from our office.  We still are getting them approved, but not in a timely manner as in the past.  They are telling us that with the “offer mills” sending in frivolous offers that it has caused an overwhelming work load for the IRS Offer Specialists.  A combination of this and the loss of tax revenue is causing the Offer Specialist to turn them down and be less agreeable to the smaller settlements.

We were also told that liens and levies will become more difficult to be lifted.  However, few liens and levies are currently being placed while an Offer in Compromise is being reviewed.  This too may change as the IRS gets bolder.  So far, they still need a court order before seizing property and we don’t foresee that changing.

We wanted to keep you informed on the mindset of the IRS in dealing with Offers in Compromise.  For anyone who might have a tax problem, NOW is the time to act.

If you should have any questions or want more information you can call or email us with any questions.  You can email me at dick@irsaway.net.  Please note “.net”.  You can also visit our web site at www.irsaway.net.  Again note the “.net”.

Sincerely,

Dick Jones, EA

Dick and Jimbo are Making Waves Again

Well, at the risk of thumping my chest too loudly in public, it seems Jim Bohannon and I are going to be talking taxes again. I'll be making my "appearance" on his show October 25 at 10pm EST. Join us!

Jimbo's show is nationally syndicated and airs on about 400 radio stations, but here in  the Rolla area you can tune in on KTTR 99.7FM or 1490AM.

Sincerely,

Dick Jones, EA
